In a continued effort to step away from relying on sex appeal or my technical ability for interest in my work, I decided to take on a more design-centered approach. As a black artist, I see few black characters in MC roles in popular anime/ cartoons, let alone with their natural hair texture. Although I don't mind too much, it has been a desire of mine to draw more black characters and be more of a stand-out black creator with quality work in the greater creative community. This fanart piece of the Storms was born out of these two desires.
Instead of just drawing Storm, I wanted her to interact with someone that had a similar aesthetic to her. Unfortunately, after some Google searching I couldn't find anyone that fit the bill, so I simply made up a twin brother for her to save the world with hahaha.
For character design, I knew I wanted to re-imagine Storm with her natural hair in my shapely style because that isn't something I see too often in mainstream animation. I went for an X-Men and punk rocker collab and undercut hairstyles for the both of them to reflect the excitingly rebellious personality I'd imagine they have. Everything from the cool tones, and spotlight really accentuates their electrifying powers and cold character in a way that I personally found gratifying and unique.
